چکیده

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of electrical pelvic nerve stimulation (PNS) on recto-anal motility. The response to PNS was investigated in 8 alpha-1-chloralose anaesthetized pigs. Anal and rectal pressure and rectal cross sectional area (CSA) were recorded by manometry and impedance planimetry, respectively. A new probe design allows measurements of CSA at 5 different locations in the rectum and anal pressure simultaneously. Low intensity PNS (2 times threshold) resulted in a decrease of anal pressure (n=5) and an increase of anal pressure (n=3). High intensity PNS (5 times threshold) resulted in a decrease of anal pressure (n=8). The rectal motility response to PNS showed an increase of CSA near the anal canal and a reduction of CSA in the oral part of the rectum. The results confirms anal motility responses to graded PNS seen in other species. Furthermore, a dual pelvic nerve influence on the rectum was demonstrated with the new probe design

The Effect of Electrical Nerve Stimulation in Management of Overactive Bladder in the Pediatric Population; A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Background: In traditional medicine and recent years, nerve stimulation has been introduced as a replacement therapy for managing several disorders such as overactive bladder. However, there is still controversy in this regard. Therefore, the present meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness of electrical nerve stimulation in treatment of overactive bladder. Methods: The present systematic...

Does PGE2 mediate Indomethacine and Theophylline effects on joint diameter and vascular response of chronically inflamed rat knee joint to saphenous nerve stimulation?

Abstract Introduction: In this study the role of PGE2 as an important inflammatory mediator in Indomethacine and Theophylline effects on joint diameter and vascular response of chronically inflamed rat knee joint to saphenous nerve stimulation was investigated. Methods: Inflammation was induced by intraarticular injection of 0.2 ml Freund,s Complete Adjuvant (FCA) and 3, 7, 14, 21 days post i...

Objective(s) Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam. is a plant widely used in Iranian traditional medicine for gastrointestinal disorders. Several reports have demonstrated antibacterial (Helicobacteria pylori), antioxidant and anti‌inflammatory properties of Z. clinopodioides. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aqueous- ethanol extract of Z. clinopodioides on rat’s gastric acid ou...

Vagus nerve stimulation in the treatment of nervous system disease: a review article

The vagus nerve (VN), the longest cranial nerve and an essential part of the parasympathetic system, connects the central nervous system to respiratory, cardiovascular, immune, gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems and is involved in the maintenance of homeostasis by controlling these systems. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is related to any method that would stimulate the vagal nerve via elec...

A comparative study on soleus H reflex parameters using vertebral column and peripheral nerve stimulation

Although low-threshold transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a modality used for control of pain, but its effect in the control of spasticity and change of excitability of a motor neuron is controversial. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of 15-min tripolar TENS of vertebral column and bipolar TENS of common peroneal nerve (300 µs width, 50 Hz) on synap...
